Weiss’ hat trick helps Fort Lewis women’s soccer bounce back

The Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team bounced back nicely from its first loss of the season with a 3-1 win Sunday at CSU-Pueblo.

The No. 5 Skyhawks (7-1-0, 3-1-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) were powered by a hat trick from Sam Weiss, who scored her third, fourth and fifth goals of the season in the fifth, 11th and 53rd minutes, respectively, as FLC opened a 3-0 lead.

“Sam scored three goals, which obviously it’s great for her to gain some confidence putting something in the back of the net,” FLC head coach Damian Clarke said.

Therese Romero had a pair of assists, and Emma Cannis added another for Fort Lewis. Abigail Chris scored the lone goal for the ThunderWolves (3-4-0, 0-4-0 RMAC).

“To be honest, they’re a team that likes to play football, similar to us. But we stayed on top and made them pay for the mistakes they committed,” Clarke said.

Amanda Raso got her first start of the year in goal for the Skyhawks, and the senior made one save as Fort Lewis outshot the ThunderWolves 12-6.

Fort Lewis will visit Adams State at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Alamosa before returning home Friday to face Colorado Christian at 3:30 p.m.
