50 YEARS AGO: “One of top women skiers: Looking forward to an exciting and busy winter in Durango is a newcomer who has had many exciting and busy winters before. Linda Meyers Tikalsky, a five-time member of the United States Ski Team, is a consultant for the new Ski Haus and will coach a ski team while studying part-time at Fort Lewis College. Tikalsky was raised in Bishop, CA, near Mammoth Mountain Ski Area on the eastern side of the High Sierras.”

25 YEARS AGO: “Police seek kidnapping suspect: Durango Police Department investigators are looking for a man suspected in the abduction of a 18-year-old female hitchhiker Sept. 28. The woman obtained a ride from a man driving a white pickup truck on the 1500 block of Main Avenue. She was held against her will but later released. The kidnapper is described as a white man, probably in his late 30s, 5-foot 11-inches tall, with dark brown hair and a mustache.”
