I've known Julie Westendorff for over 20 years, from back when she was a University of Virginia law student who served as a summer intern for the Navajo legal aid program where I worked as an attorney. Julie has a long history of public service, from serving as a Southern Ute tribal prosecutor and Bayfield municipal judge to her current tenure as a La Plata County Commissioner. Julie is smart, balanced and looks at an issue from all sides before making a decision that she feels is in the best interests of the county's residents. Most importantly, she listens. Many of you have probably talked to her during her monthly office hours at the Pine River Library.
Julie has done an excellent job over the last four years as a La Plata County Commissioner, working tirelessly to stay well-informed on the many diverse and complex issues that face county government. She was on the front line during the Gold King Mine spill, and advocated for months for full EPA reimbursement of the county's spill-related costs.
More recently, she and her fellow commissioners petitioned the Federal Communications Commission to have La Plata County included in the FCC's Denver market and thus receive Denver programming.
Vote to re-elect Julie Westendorff for another term as county commissioner so that she can continue her work on behalf of all county residents.
