‘Western Horseman’ features a La Plata County family

Nothing can beat the sweeping rugged scenery in the Weminuche Wilderness, and seeing it from horseback is a memorable experience.

That experience is featured in the February issue of Western Horseman in a story titled “Wandering the Weminuche.”

It focuses on Over the Hill Outfitters, a three-generation family business based in La Plata County. The three generations include Terry and Dixie Palmer, their son, Randy Palmer, and granddaughters, Jessica and Hannah Looman.

The story, by Western Horseman Associate Editor Katie Frank, is described as, “A first-time packer’s trek into Colorado’s Weminuche Wilderness leaves lasting impressions of horsemanship, good horses and amazing scenery.”

The Weminuche, the largest wilderness area in Colorado, covers nearly 500,000 acres and is three-quarters the size of Rhode Island. It was designated as a wilderness area by Congress in 1975. The issue is on newsstands until the end of the month.
