The Fort Lewis College women’s cross country team was second out of six teams and the men’s third out of five at the Mountaineer Open on Saturday in Gunnison.
Host school Western State – ranked second (men) and third (women) nationally – swept both races comfortably, beating the FLC women by 41 and the men by 66 on the Mountaineers’ home course.
Maddie Kruger led the way for the FLC women, finishing fifth in the 6-kilometer race in 23 minutes, 54 seconds in a race won by Western State’s Tara Richardson. Katarina Medici and Alexis Work were 11th and 12th, respectively, for the Skyhawks, while Madeigh Winsor, Katherine Judge and Kiara Glover came in together in 16th, 17th and 18th, respectively.
