Durangoans hoping to scope out the changing colors of the leaves this weekend should pack an umbrella and expect wet weather as storms move through the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologist Megan Stackhouse of the National Weather Service in Grand Junction said Friday’s high is expected to hit 64 degrees, with a 40 to 50 percent chance of rain in the afternoon.
“Friday is on the wetter side,” she said. “This rain is mainly left over from the storm moving out of our area. It is residual. Things will really be picking up around midday in the afternoon hours.”
Stackhouse said another disturbance will affect Southwest Colorado on Saturday, bringing with it a 50 percent chance of precipitation.
Saturday’s highs are expected to reach the mid-60s with a low of 40 degrees.
Elevations above 11,000 feet could see a small accumulation of snow, Stackhouse said.
“We don’t anticipate any significant impacts in terms of snow,” she said. “There might be about an inch of snow on those higher peaks on Saturday.”
The region will start to dry out Sunday, with highs in the low 70s.
“Sunday is looking pretty good,” Stackhouse said. “There could be isolated showers to start the morning, but it will be a good day to get out and do things.”
The dry weather is expected to continue into the first half of next week.
