What a lawsuit says about our phony economy

The $12 million award to the girl who fell from a Crested Butte ski lift will likely cost every ski area in Colorado a million-plus dollars (Herald, Sept. 4). Perhaps Crested Butte should just hand over ownership of the ski area to this girl and her family.

It’s much like the guy who bought Taos Ski Valley, and a huge ranch in New Mexico, with the windfall he got from shorting the housing market in 2008.

This is the way our phony-baloney American economy operates.
