What do you think about the government shutdown?

The Durango Herald asked people Tuesday on Main Avenue: “What is your opinion of the government shutdown?”

“I think it’s bull (expletive). Congress is getting paid, but they expect other people to work for free. My daughter has friends who work for the government, and if they don’t show up, they get fired, pay or no pay. That’s not fair.”

Diane Nez, Durango

”The frightening thing about the shutdown is we really come face-to-face with the government’s dysfunction in a way that’s very public, seen on the international level. People who don’t usually pay attention to government are privy to the consequences, and it creates a lot of hysteria.”

Rachel Rossi, Durango

“I don’t like it. It’s not good – especially the farm bill. I’m a farmer and rancher, and they’ve been working on a farm bill to help us out forever. No one seems to come to the middle, plus, there are a lot of people out of a job right now.”

Tony Zimbelman, Weld County

“I’m nervous about it, mostly about losing my house or my job.”

Tim Prowell, Durango
