Here are a few comments that stood out this week:
“Congratulations Tiffany! The Milken Award is an awesome honor. Years ago, in 1996, I was a recipient as an elementary principal. The cash award gave me the opportunity to establish a scholarship at the local community college in memory of my late husband. The Milken experience is a ‘one in a lifetime experience.’ Congratulations again!!” – Faye Frye
“While Tiffany is right that so many at Needham are deserving, she is definitely top tier!! So lucky to have her as my son’s fifth grade teacher last year!!” – Lindsay Hayden
“Enforcing more victimless crimes doesn’t make a society safer but it does introduce more conflict where unnecessary.” – Matthew Hess
“What about putting some patrols on Florida by the gas station where someone thinks it’s drag race time. Every. Single. Day. Between 6 and 9 p.m. most of the time.” – Aurelia Ekeland
“Local cops should crack down on tailgaters! This place is the worst I’ve ever experienced in 40 years of driving for tailgating!” – Gene Garritano
“Need more police presence in the valley in the mornings and afternoons. Kids getting off school buses on 550 north are going to get hit because so many people don’t stop for the buses.” – Beth Reel
“I live at Three Springs and would like to add that just like the train noise, the hospital helicopter is barely noticed by most (anyone) anymore. Conditioned minds! The Three Springs development will have more housing or apartments built because that’s part of the reason it was established by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. There is plenty of land set aside for development and included are stores, schools, tennis courts, recreational facilities, and more. Farmers Fresh is scheduled to start building a grocery store soon. They have land by the Subaru dealership. Water will be sourced from the same places the city sources water from now. Building is going to happen whether we like it or not! Apartments are alternative housing! Yes, we need more low income housing! Yes, we need smaller track homes to be built for young families to purchase, duplexes, condos, etc. And honestly, individuals could stop selling existing homes for rental use for tourist and for second homes rarely used! The residents of La Plata County need to stop complaining and calling it a Republican or Democrat issue. Change will happen when we come together as people residing in the same communities who want to improve this area for all of us!” – Carrie Vogel
“So if my math is right that’s less than 10% will be affordable housing. And a much greater percentage of people in Durango than that needs affordable housing. Seems like this developer is going for luxury income.” – Sand Haley
