When were new bicycle lanes voted on?

I write this as a voice for those who are not heard and are ignored in this once-great town. As a voice to speak out for the neighborhoods up Junction Creek and other neighborhoods that are affected by the special interest groups that now appear to govern this town.

Over the course of the last month we have witnessed many bicycle lanes appearing on our city streets. What right do the special interest groups possess that allow them to take over property that previously was available to park my paid for and registered vehicles?

More than half of the previously available parking has been taken from residents in this area. When was this decision voted upon? Were the residents and the school board members notified?

What makes the city council think they can just pass laws without input from the affected public; especially those who are directly affected?

Just yesterday, I witnessed the parents of children practicing football at Miller Middle School receiving tickets for parking in what was previously property used for drop and go at the school. What made this case more pointed, the ticketing officer had nowhere to park his vehicle, so he was also parked in the new “bicycle lane.” What hypocrisy.

So I began to ask myself, “Are these new bicycle lanes just a ploy by our town to raise more revenue?” I thought the job of a police officer was to serve and protect? I did not ever think his job would also include revenue producer.

As I have watched over the past few years, our town has given into these special interest groups and for what return? Do they pay the taxes when an accident occurs? Does bicycle registration pay for the new lines being sprayed and crews to hang the signs? What right do they have to the road over my paying vehicles?

For those who benefit from this, just realize it comes at the cost of the residents, school parents and any automobile activist. It affects all of us to support your hobby.
