There’s a 400-home subdivision planned for east of Bayfield. At Three Springs, they’re talking 2,300 homes, and in Twin Buttes, up to 655. In Edgemont they’re going for 900 houses. No mention of how these homes will get water.
Our Animas River trickling through town doesn’t look up to the task. Nor do the area’s depleted reservoirs, including Lake Nighthorse now that it’s been plumbed with outflow piping.
Will the new residents be assigned group showers at the Rec Center and waterless car washes? Will the thousands of new hotel guests arriving in downtown Durango be required to reuse their towels?
