Where’s the remedy for retail wrongs?

Since the summer of 2020, I have been victimized by some (not most) local businesses. As a retired litigation attorney, I would like to send demand letters, but that would be an empty threat as long as no jury trial is possible.

So I wonder when that might be? It is like this local business sells me a device to do a certain thing in my home. But it does not work. What better way to get justice in such a case than to have the jury come to my home and see if the device will work for them? Well, we can’t have this level of justice as long as jury trials are in limbo.

And the statute of limitations on some verbal contract cases will run in 2023, and written contract cases in 2025 – or before. Our local courts are so backed up that no business that has wronged us would be impressed by an attorney’s demand letter. Perhaps La Plata County needs to institute a “consumer’s court“ or something, or perhaps the State needs to extend the statute of limitations for cases wherein the wrong arose in 2020 (or later as matters progress).
