Wind advisory issued for San Juan Mountains

High winds are expected to blow into much of western Colorado on Monday.

A wind advisory was issued for the San Juan Mountains, including the towns of Silverton, Ouray and Telluride, from noon to 11 p.m.

The National Weather Service said winds will gradually increase through the day and peak in the evening as a cold front moves in from northern Utah.

Winds from the west will be 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph – and possibly as high as 75 mph, the weather service said.

The advisory said high profile and light vehicles could encounter travel difficulties, especially on north-south highways.

Areas of southeast and eastern Colorado, meanwhile, are under fire weather advisories and red flag warnings for wildfire danger, and sections of central and north-central Colorado are experiencing wintry weather.
