Gusty winds shook fall leaves from autumn trees Friday across much of Southwest Colorado, bringing cooler temperatures to the region.
Friday’s wind gusts reached 24 mph to 33 mph, as measured at Durango-La Plata County Airport, said John Kyle, data acquisition program manager at the National Weather Service in Grand Junction. The high reached about 64 degrees.
“The temperatures behind it are definitely cooler than they were yesterday (Thursday),” he said. “We have a low that is producing some showers over the northern and central high country – areas to your north – that’s going to push through overnight (Saturday).”
Forecasters were calling for a steady warming trend this weekend, with a high of 69 degrees Saturday and a high of 72 degrees Sunday in Durango, Kyle said. It is expected to be dry.
“(Saturday) should be a really nice day, as should Sunday – a nice weekend,” he said.
Another cold front moves into western Colorado on Monday, but the moisture isn’t expected to make it as far south as Durango, he said. The San Juan Mountains above 10,000 feet in elevation may receive snow, he said.
