The Durango Herald Facebook reader Cristy Emery sent this week’s Caption This! winning headline, “Let’s put a happy little tree right here. There are no mistakes, only birds.”
Coming in a close second was “And we’ll just add some Dark-Side Blue here and blend that with a little Yoda Green, now that’s looking great,” sent in by Josie Maria Donyawana.
This week’s photo was unique and took a lot of gumption from photographer Hank Blum and his wife, Andrea. The Blums drove their Jeep toward Hurricane Pass in Silverton until the snow prevented them from traveling farther, according to Hank Blum. They then hiked a half mile, carrying their camera equipment and the costume. Once they were set up, a storm – complete with wind, snow and lightning – rolled in and they had to run back to the car where they waited 30 minutes for the storm to pass. They then hiked back up to their ideal spot, set up and Hank posed in his costume as Andrea art directed. Hank Blum took the shot with a remote hidden in his hand.
