A winter storm is on its way this afternoon and tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, rain is possible later today, turning to snow later this evening, with a 60-percent chance of precipitation. Tonight has a 70 percent chance of snow with up to an inch of snow possible in the lower valleys, and more in the mountains.
Statewide, the Colorado Department of Transportation says winter weather is expected starting at midnight. Four to eight inches of snow could fall in the northeast part of the state, two to six inches on the Front Range, and 10 to 18 inches in the mountains. Wind speeds could be as high as 50 mph, particularly east of I-25. Chain laws could go in effect in the mountains, traction laws requiring adequate snow tires, chains, or 4WD for all vehicles possible anywhere in the state.
A low of 22 is expected tonight in Bayfield and Ignacio. It's sunny and 40 tomorrow for Veterans Day, clear and cold Wednesday night with a low of 16. Sunny Thursday and Friday with highs in the 40s, moving into the 50s on Saturday.
