The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a winter storm watch advisory that will remain in effect from Tuesday morning until Wednesday evening.
During this time, the National Weather Service says heavy snow is possible, with accumulations of 8 to 16 inches possible. Wind gusts could reach as high as 30 to 40 mph.
The winter storm watch as issued for the northwest and southwest San Juan Mountains, including the towns of Hesperus, Lake City, Silverton, Telluride, Rico and Ouray.
The National Weather Service said holiday travel could be heavily impacted because of the storm, with potential heavy snow and reduced visibility. Sleet and/or ice may also cause difficult travel conditions.
Anyone with plans to travel are advised to keep monitoring the forecast, the National Weather Service said.
