A winter weather advisory for the San Juan Mountains was extended until midnight Saturday.
Snow was expected above 10,000 feet, so drivers should take caution on Red Mountain Pass on U.S. Highway 550, said Dan Cuevas, a National Weather Service technician.
“It may be later this evening when things cool down, when we do get any snow up there,” he said Saturday afternoon.
The relatively warm storm system dropped 3/4 of an inch of rain at Durango-La Plata County Airport by about noon Saturday, he said.
Silverton had received 1/10 of an inch of rain by Saturday morning.
Purgatory Resort’s online cameras showed snow covering the ground near Dante’s Bistro at 10,500 feet on Saturday afternoon.
The majority of the snow likely fell last night, Cuevas said.
The storm should clear up in Durango by Sunday afternoon, and the high is expected to be 57 degrees.
