If you took a chance and planted outside before Memorial Day, get out the garden blankets.
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction issued a winter weather advisory for the high country around Durango from early Wednesday morning to 6 p.m. Friday.
Along with temperatures dipping below freezing, the “strong, late season storm” could bring 8 to 11 inches of snow to elevations above 9,000 feet, the Weather Service said.
Locations under the advisory include Hesperus, Lake City, Rico, Silverton and Telluride.
Other areas in Colorado on the list are Columbine, Hahns Peak, Toponas, Aspen, Vail, Snowmass, Crested Butte, Taylor Park, Marble, Buford and Trappers Lake.
According to the Weather Service, snow is expected to begin early Wednesday, with the greatest chance for accumulations Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The Weather Service warns that wind gusts could reach 30 mph, and mountain passes could be icy and snowpacked.
A freeze watch is in effect late Wednesday night through Thursday morning.
Lower elevations, including Durango, could see temperatures in the mid 20s to mid 30s.
