U.S. Highway 160 over Wolf Creek Pass closed for several hours Monday afternoon, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
CDOT said in a traffic alert the entire pass from mile markers 144 to 186 was shut down as a result of a “vehicle recovery.”
The original crash occurred around 1:15 p.m. Sept. 8 during an early season snow storm, resulting in a truck sliding off the highway about 10 mile west of South Fork.
Lewis said the driver, identified as Mark Gottfried, 70, of Monte Vista, lost control of the truck and rolled off the ridge side of the road. The vehicle ended up more than 100 feet off the road.
Gottfried did not sustain any injuries, Lewis said. He was cited with driving a vehicle improperly on a mountain highway.
Wolf Creek Pass was closed Monday for CSP to complete its investigation and for tow operations to recover the truck, Schwantes said. The highway was reopened around 5 p.m.
Earlier Monday, Red Mountain Pass between Silverton and Ouray closed for about three hours after a semitrailer rolled over.
