A three-run fourth inning Tuesday afternoon gave Bayfield a lead not to be lost, and senior Austin Wilmer struck out 13 Ignacio batters in a complete-game effort, producing a 6-2 home win.

Senior Brendan Heydinger went 3-for-4 offensively for the Wolverines and finished a homer short of the cycle while scoring two runs and plating as many. Sophomore Josiah Mayfield went 1-3 with a double and one RBI.

Senior Micah Cornelia and junior Caleb Beck also scored once. On the mound, Wilmer limited the error-prone Bobcats (12-4 overall, 8-1 2A San Juan Basin) to just four hits, two coming off the bat of sophomore William Mendoza-Lechuga (2-3, R).

Junior Stoney White Thunder went 1-3 with a double, senior Cole Wagner, a former Wolverine, went 1-3.

Bayfield (5-10, 1-1 3A Intermountain) will resume league play Saturday at Pagosa Springs. The doubleheader against the Pirates (8-8, 1-5) is slated to start at 11 a.m.

Ignacio hosted Sanford (7-5, 6-0 2A Southern Peaks) and won 7-6 on Thursday night.
