The Wolverines stepped up their play to match the level of their competition.
The Bayfield High School girls basketball team defeated Aztec 53-43 on Saturday morning in the Rumble in the Jungle tournament less than 24 hours after losing to the Tigers’ junior varsity team.
“We did a lot of talking (Friday) night about coming back and adjsuting,” BHS rookie head coach Bri Simbeck said. “We were happy to come out and get a little revenge.”
Jaida Ross picked up her second consecutive double-double with 22 points and 18 rebounds.
“She was just reslilient on the rebounding,” Simbeck said. “She had to play through getting fouled a lot. She was just very mentally tough.”
The victory broke a four-game losing streak by the Wolverines (2-4), including back-to-back losses in the tournament to Artesia (82-52) and the Aztec JV (50-46).
