Wolverines fall four runs short in Blanding

BHS heading to Colorado Springs this weekend

After falling behind 7-2 through two innings Tuesday, the Bayfield Wolverines were unable to complete a late-inning comeback in Blanding, Utah against San Juan High School.

Junior Michael Gettman went a reported 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and as many batted in. Even though help came from seniors Fred Edwards (3-4, 3 RBI) and Austin Bushnell (2-3, R, 2 RBI), BHS fell 13-9 to the Broncos.

San Juan had a six-run third inning, putting the home team up 13-3 and threatening to end the game early by mercy rule before Bayfield began battling back with three runs in the top of the fourth.

San Juan came back and scored more runs, however, and won their fourth consecutive outing.

Sophomore Jake Brandon went 2-3 with a triple and two RBIs for BHS, and sophomore Hayden Farmer was 2-4 with three runs scored.

Known for his work as a catcher, Bushnell started on the mound for new coach Danny Petrie and took the loss, completing two innings and allowing eight hits and seven runs, with six earned.

Up next, BHS travels east to face Manitou Springs, ranked fifth in this week's CHSAANow.com 3A poll, at 1 p.m. Friday and St. Mary's in Colorado Springs at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the Wolverines will play against 4A Colorado Springs Sand Creek at 2 p.m.
