A slow pace didn’t stop the Bayfield High School girls basketball team from racking up its first winning streak of the season.
The Wolverines defeated Montezuma-Cortez High School 42-30 on Tuesday night in Cortez for their second consecutive win.
Jaida Ross led BHS (3-4) with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Haley Clarke added nine points and eight rebounds.
“We were able to put pressure on them on the defensive end,” BHS head coach Bri Simbeck said. “The tempo wasn’t quite as good because it was a slow-paced game.”
BHS now has until Jan. 17 to prepare for its home and league opener against Monte Vista.
