Starting halves proved problematic for the Bayfield High School boys basketball team in the first game of head coach Randy Stephens’ tenure.
Stephens didn’t know the game’s final score, but he said his team was playing catch-up the entire game.
“We need to come out of the gate ready to play,” he said. “We need to step out and execute right from the very beginning.”
The Wolverines nearly brought the deficit to single digits several times, but their execution faltered.
“We turned the ball over at the wrong times,” Stephens said. “They took advantage of the opportunities we gave them.”
BHS will continue tournament play Saturday in Cortez.
