Wolverines put down Pirates on road, 3-0

BHS already winning as many games as 2016 season

Defeated 2-0 last Saturday at Ridgway, Bayfield head coach Chris Zoltowski took away one key thought regarding the Demons, already with a sweep of the teams' two regular-season matches.

"They are playing on another level right now," he stated. "Soccer is the heart and soul of that school and it shows."

Their collective lesson learned, the Wolverines regrouped and upped their game a level Tuesday afternoon.

And even in a place historically more unfriendly to the program's efforts, BHS equaled last fall's win total already with a 3-nil shutout of Pagosa Springs.

Senior Tilden Berriman again found the net, as did senior Shea Marx and junior Berman Abdallah-Boehm, giving senior goalkeeper Chad Winkler plenty of support inside Golden Peaks Stadium as Bayfield improved to 4-2-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the 3A Intermountain.

By comparison, BHS went 4-7-4, 3-6-3 in 2016.

Up next for the Wolverines will be a 4 p.m. kickoff Friday at home against Alamosa (2-3-0, 2-2-0), with a noontime start slated for Saturday in Crested Butte. AHS will enter Wolverine Country Stadium looking to rebound from a 2-0 loss Tuesday at non-league 4A Pueblo County (4-1-0 overall).
