The girlfriend of a man accused of a shooting incident has been arrested for allegedly disposing of the firearm.

Shianne Stewart, 31, of Farmington was arrested April 10 after police investigated her potential involvement in a March 13 shooting on County Road 5030. Jack Casey Jones, 37, reportedly was “shooting a handgun off in the air,” during an argument with Stewart, according to the statement of probable cause.

San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area at 6:08 p.m. and questioned Jones, who said “there was only a Nerf gun at the residence.” Stewart reportedly backed up the story, saying “there was no gun,” according to the statement of probable cause.

However, at 5:07 p.m. March 27 Jones and Stewart spoke on a recorded line at the San Juan County Detention Center. Jones spoke about the items in the car, and Stewart responded, “They’re idiots, I already got rid of that for you stupid,” the affidavit for arrest warrant states.

Investigators believed Stewart to be speaking of the handgun, which was not located at the scene of the shooting. At the time of the incident, Stewart told them the gun was in the vehicle, but they could not locate it, according to the statement of probable cause.

Instead, they found “ammunition, magazines, spent shell casings,” court records state.

Investigators also searched the home, but found no gun. They said in the probable cause statement that they could charge Jones because both Stewart and the neighbor witnessed Jones shoot the gun, “described to be a Ruger semi-automatic pistol.”

In the phone call, which was listed in the affidavit for arrest warrant, Jones asked Stewart, “You got rid it.”

“Yeah,” she responded.

“What did you do with it,” Jones asked.

“Just wiped it off and threw it away,” Stewart said.

“I love you,” Jones said.

Stewart was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence.

While Jones is still being held in the detention center on charges of negligent use of a deadly weapon near a dwelling and felon in possession of a firearm.
