Two men robbed a woman of her groceries Wednesday night as she walked out of south City Market in Durango, police said.
The 21-year-old woman bought about $25 worth of groceries, including chips and tortillas, but her bags were snatched out of her hands in the parking lot at 6 Town Plaza, said Detective Josh Newman with the Durango Police Department.
“They asked for the groceries first, and she didn’t respond, and then one of the guys grabbed them and took off,” Newman said. “They didn’t use any sort of weapons or anything like that.”
The robbery occurred just after sunset when the parking lot was mostly dark.
The woman described one of the men as looking homeless. He had dirty clothes and a dirty face, she told police.
The woman saw both men hanging out in front of the store when she went inside, Newman said.
“People need to be aware of their surroundings,” he said. “If anything seems unusual, take precautions.”
After taking the groceries, the men fled on foot. If caught, they face possible charges of felony robbery.
