Women’s History Month events scheduled

The Women’s Resource Center has events scheduled through March to mark Women’s History Month.

Financial empowerment is the topic of a workshop Thursday by Julia Prejs from Alpine Bank. The workshop, the first of four, is scheduled from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Durango Community Recreation Center. The cost for members is $10 or $30 for all four sessions. Nonmembers will pay $15 and $40.

A film, “The Empowerment Project,” will be shown at 5:30 p.m. March 19 at the Durango Arts Center. Members get in free; nonmembers pay $5. The film chronicles the trip of five female filmmakers across the United States to encourage the next generation of women to follow their career goals.

Two local empowerment projects will be described after the film.

Shaila Van Sickle, a retired Fort Lewis College English professor, will speak about her book, Seven Characters in Search of an Author, at 11 a.m. March 21 in the Vallecito Room at FLC. Van Sickle also will offer insights on how to write a book. The cost is $35.

Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame inductee Gudy Gaskll, the visionary and builder behind the Colorado Trail, will tell her story starting at 5:30 p.m. at the DAC on March 31. The talk is free for members and $5 for non-members.
