Women’s Resource Center names award winners

The Women’s Resource Center has announced the winners for its annual Extraordinary Women Awards. An award’s luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Durango DoubleTree, 501 Camino del Rio.

To start Women’s History Month in March, each year, the Women’s Resource Center honors the outstanding achievements of women in La Plata County and the significant impact they’ve had on creating stronger women, girls, neighborhoods and communities.

This year’s winners are local residents Joanne Spina, Linda Campbell and Jane Fogleman.

Spina is assistant county manager for La Plata County. She has been employed by the county for the last 27 years. Since 1985, Spina has been an active member of the local nonprofit scene, serving on numerous boards, including the Mercy Regional Medical Center board of directors, which she served on for 14 years.

Campbell has taught in Ignacio schools for more than 20 years and was an active volunteer and fundraiser for the Ignacio Boys and Girls Club, the Pine River Learning Center, Mercy Regional Medical Center Breast Care Center, Fort Lewis College Board of Trustees and the Continental Divide Trail Alliance.

Fogleman is a small-business owner, entrepreneur, philanthropist and passionate volunteer.

Liz Ross, the new director of the Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center, will be this year’s keynote speaker. She will talk about the importance and value of on-going public service.

The luncheon will feature a catered lunch, cash bar and silent auction before the awards ceremony.

Tickets for the luncheon are $30 and may be purchased in person at the Women’s Resource Center, 679 East Second Ave., Unit 6, or by calling 247-1242.
