La Plata County has hired a contractor to replace a bridge abutment on the west side of the county, and the work will lead to a road closure for several weeks.
KW Enterprises will replace the stacked-timber abutment with a concrete version on the west side of the La Plata River Bridge on Lewis Creek Road (County Road 124A) starting Tuesday.
The bridge is approximately 9.2 miles north of U.S. Highway 160 at Hesperus.
In a news release, the county said work is expected to last until Oct. 31.
The road will be closed for three weeks during construction, but the county did not say which three weeks in the time frame that would be. A call on Friday was not returned.
During the remainder of the construction, work hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
