North Korea says it has nuclear missiles
LONDON – A North Korean envoy says his country has developed nuclear missiles and is prepared to use them at any time.
North Korean Ambassador to Britain Hyun Hak Bong said in a recent interview with British broadcaster Sky News that his government would use the missiles in response to a nuclear attack by the United States.
Asked whether North Korea has the ability now to launch a nuclear missile, Hyun replied, “Any time. Any time. Yes.”
“If the United States strikes us we should strike back,” he said.
North Korea is thought to have a handful of crude nuclear bombs and has conducted three nuclear tests since 2006.
Major shortages of water predicted
NEW DELHI – The world could suffer a 40 percent shortfall in water in just 15 years unless countries dramatically change their use of the resource, a United Nations report warned Friday.
The report predicts global water demand will increase 55 percent by 2050, while reserves dwindle. If current usage trends don’t change, the world will have only 60 percent of the water it needs in 2030, it said.
New Ebola case reported in Liberia
MONROVIA, Liberia – Two senior Liberian officials say a patient in the country’s capital has tested positive for Ebola, more than two weeks after the last case was discharged.
Liberia has seen the most deaths in the world’s largest-ever Ebola outbreak, but since it has not had a case for more than two weeks, it was counting down to being declared Ebola-free.
But Dr. Francis Kateh, acting head of the country’s Ebola Incident Management Team, said Friday that a test has come back positive for a female patient.
