Germany gives Greece records of tax cheats

BERLIN – Germany has shared some 10,000 records on possible Greek tax cheats with Athens.

Authorities say the records concern Greek individuals and companies who had almost 4 billion Swiss francs stashed in Swiss bank accounts.

The state’s finance minister, Norbert Walter-Borjans, said in a statement Wednesday that the data might help Greece achieve “more tax honesty.”

Art thief suspect nabbed in Greece

ATHENS, Greece – Police in Greece say a Cuban man has been arrested near Athens on suspicion of stealing 71 paintings and artwork from the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana.

Greek police said Wednesday the 36-year-old man was arrested following a notice from the international police organization, Interpol. They didn’t identify the suspect or the whereabouts of the paintings.

The man was staying in the town of Koropi, near Athens.

New minister: Poland against emissions cuts

WARSAW, Poland – Poland’s new environment minister said Wednesday he is against further cuts in carbon gas emissions, a key topic during climate talks next week in Paris.

Minister Jan Szyszko said it is “not very much in Poland’s interest to adopt any high reduction obligations” and that Poland will have its own position at the talks, which open Monday.
