Two Egyptian officers killed by gunmen

EL-ARISH, Egypt – Gunmen shot and killed two senior Egyptian officers in the country’s volatile Sinai Peninsula, where the military has been trying to quell a spreading insurgency by Islamic militants, a security official said.

The attackers opened fire on the officers’ vehicle near the peninsula’s northern city of el-Arish, sprayed it with bullets and then fled the scene, the official said.

The attack came a day after the military said it killed three militants in Sinai.

Court denies request for Eichmann materials

BERLIN – Germany’s highest court has rejected a newspaper’s bid to gain unrestricted access to all the foreign intelligence service’s files on Adolf Eichmann, known as the architect of the Holocaust.

The Federal Constitutional Court said Friday the complaint was dismissed last month.

The Bild newspaper is investigating whether West German authorities knew in the 1950s where Eichmann fled after World War II.
