World needs billions of strong women

Three years ago, a photo of me holding a picket sign made the front-page of The Durango Herald. My daughter’s story went viral. I thought I was witnessing a student-rights battle. I wasn’t. I was about to take a VIP tour of our misogynistic society. The country, overwhelmingly, stood against the image of a powerful, attractive young woman. The scandalous spirit of a woman demands public rebuke. Moderate her opinions, choices and sense of individuality. Squelch sexuality. Shame her. Mutilate her. Impregnate her. Medicate her. Once we were property. Now, we are “whores” and “sluts.” The church wants us to submit. Corporations want us to spend.

Schools want us to fit in. Society wants us to behave. Human practices have become barbaric. Animals are caged, tortured and slaughtered for our enjoyment. Little girls are given away to marriage. GMOs are the norm. Homelessness and poverty are epidemic. Spending habits and debt are ridiculous. Government is corrupt. Men have done a terrible job being in charge. They have raped our world, imprisoned our animals and enslaved our fellow man. It is time women take the helm. The world needs the spirit of a mother – a powerful mother, one that protects its inhabitants, stands up to bullies, negotiates peace, restores the environment. The world needs fearless women – billions of them. We will lead, wearing what we want, saying what we want, doing what we want, achieving whatever the hell we want. Be warned.
