Writers workshop set for July 16

A writers workshop with Jonathan Thompson, an environmental journalist and author of River of Lost Souls: The Science, Politics and Greed Behind the Gold King Mine Disaster, and Kirsten Johanna Allen, publisher and editor at Torrey House Press, will be held July 16 in Durango.

Writers in the Four Corners can submit short stories, poems and essays written according to the theme “Writing Place: The Animas River Region” to receive feedback and guidance from Thompson and Allen during the workshop. Submission deadline is Friday.

A free youth workshop for writers ages 18 and younger from 10 a.m. to noon and an adult workshop for $75 from 1 to 4 p.m. will be offered, with a lunch from noon to 1 p.m. The location is to-be-determined.

Lunch, a copy of Thompson’s book and a Maria’s Bookshop mug is included with registration.

Participants have the chance to share a final piece at the 2018 Innovation Expo kickoff Aug. 28 in Silverton.
