Xcel Energy project to affect water levels at Electra Lake

Xcel Energy will conduct work on the Terminal Dam at Electra Lake in La Plata County this summer, and visitors to the lake should expect to see lower water levels.

Xcel Energy is responsible for the safety of the dam, and the work is part of an ongoing project. Work will include the construction of a temporary dam in the reservoir to keep the work area dry. There will be enough water held in Electra Lake for those customers and communities that need the water.

Visitors to the lake should also be aware that accessing the water may be unsafe because of the low water level. In 2019, Xcel Energy inspected Terminal Dam to identify concerns that must be addressed for the safety of the public. The company is working with state and federal regulators throughout this summer on the project.
