Young Durango talent storms Soldier Hollow mountain bike races

The International Cycling Union (UCI) points races weren’t the only events in Midway, Utah, that were flooded by some of Durango’s top mountain bikers.

Durango Devo’s Riley Amos stormed to the win in the age 15-16 Category 1 cross-country race, as he finished in 58 minutes, 3.26 seconds. That was nearly a full minute faster than Utah’s Gabe Noorda, who was second. Amos also won the short-track race in his division in 15:53.68, which was 4.65 seconds faster than second-place Blake Wray.

Durango’s Ruth Holcomb placed second in the girls 15-16 Category 1 race in 1:10:09.81. She was 50 seconds off the winning time of Utah’s Sydney Palmerleger. Holcomb also finished second in the short-track race in 16:09.22, and that gave her the individual omnium win for her age category. Holcomb’s short-track time was only 0.69 seconds behind Tai Lee Smith of Breckenridge.

Durango Devo’s Lauren Aggeler took a win in the junior 13-14 girls cross-country race. She finished in 43:55.74 to beat Nevada’s Mya Dixon by nearly 43 seconds. Aggeler also won the short-track race in her age division in 12:22:15, 50 seconds faster than Dixon.

In the junior 13-14 boys cross-country race, Durango Devo’s Riley Jaber placed fifth in 54:01.08. Montana’s Colter Gaertner won in 51:35.96.
