The editorial page editor sets the tone for the community. What has happened?
We used to have very well-reasoned, educational and thought-provoking editorials, but now find ourselves assaulted with poorly written, short-sighted screeds contributing to the polarization and division Americans experience every day.
Durango deserves better.
Monday’s headline, “It’s your House – Democrats, before you unpack, we’d like to have a word about your new mandate” screamed immediate polarization. Who is the “you” referred to?
Why not write, “We have a new House – let’s talk about how to move forward”?
“We” are the people that Congress serves. “We” elected new representation.
Why is the Herald choosing language to inflame and divide?
We need thoughtful language encouraging us to respect each other, listen to each other’s ideas and needs and to work together for solutions that benefit most Americans.
These statements, “After a win such as you had in Congress …” and “… the Resistance took the People’s House …” cemented that the Herald’s editorial page editor is clearly partisan.
The editor obviously cares little for creating community in Durango.
Once again, he reveals himself to be the Trump-supporting “other.”
After our contentious election, an editorial voice that addresses issues without inflaming partisanship is the healing balm Durango and our country need.
Perhaps the editor should write for Breitbart News.
He clearly is the wrong fit for the Durango Herald.
