I support Melissa Youssef for Durango City Council because I believe she is the type of person who will conscientiously represent the voice of the community she serves. Her slogan - “Your Values, Your Vision, Your Voice” clearly articulates her commitment to honor the wishes and will of Durango voters. If you have any doubts, her record of community service speaks for itself.
Melissa has been an influential member of the Durango Parks and Recreation Board since 2014 (her term just ended in January of 2017). As a member of the advisory board, Melissa was actively involved in developing a revised process for the board to use in prioritizing parks and recreation capital improvement projects, which has been helpful as a tool for the board in its strategic planning efforts. An important component of this process is encouraging broad community input regarding desired initiatives.
Serving with Melissa also gave me the opportunity to observe her abilities in carefully analyzing various issues, listening respectfully to all points of view and striving for consensus in shaping a reasonable course of action. I appreciate her efforts in working with the advisory board to ensure that the opinions of community members are heard.
I feel confident that based on her track record, as a member of city council, Melissa will fairly and transparently represent the best interests of Durango. It is for these reasons that I believe Melissa will be an extremely effective public servant in this important civic role. I hope you will support her with your vote.
