Durango Baseball & Softball hosted its annual league tournament on June 11-17. This year, a record number of communities from Southwest Colorado played in the baseball league and postseason tournament, which is run by Durango Baseball.

The league featured 39 teams this season from Bayfield, Dolores, Durango, Ignacio, Mancos and Pagosa Springs all participating in the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U divisions.

Durango Baseball & Softball serves over 500 youth athletes, ranging from 4-14 years old, and has become a destination for independent recreational baseball and softball in Southwest Colorado.

At the year-end tournament, two Ignacio teams, one from Durango and one from Pagosa Springs ended up winning championships.

In the 8U championship game, the Ignacio Toros defeated the Durango Mining Equipment Dynamite. The game was decided in extra innings, and was arguably the most thrilling game of the tournament. It was also a very sportsmanlike battle between the two teams and their coach-pitch coaches: Alex Pena (Ignacio) and John Simpson (Durango). Both coaches won state wrestling titles in high school.

In the 10U championships, the Durango Bank of Colorado Titans defeated Ignacio Lions

In the 12U championship, the Pagosa Pirates defeated the Durango A&L Coors Silver Bullets.

In the 14U championships, the Ignacio Bobcats scored the title over Durango Ski Barn.
