Third and sixth graders stay undefeated

The second grade Durango youth football team played Bloomfield and improved in many aspects of the game last week. Colin Price scored the team’s lone touchdown, but Darren Brunson completed a 30-yard pass to Ryland Lopez. Bryson Drover, Feliciano Zamario, Clark McKay, Tate Paulek and Stran Mietchen were strong on defense.

Scores aren’t kept in the learning league.

The third grade team scored a hard-fought victory over Farmington, winning 12-6 to stay undefeated and improve to 6-0.

Sawyer Sigle threw two touchdown passes to Jameson Green, the second touchdown coming in the final minute to seal the Demons victory. The defensive line of Jay Paulek, Terrance Sutherlin, Colton Ludeman and Colton Espinosa battled hard to hold Farmington to a single touchdown.

Fourth grader Levi Schwettman came to play and earned a scoop and score. Neamiah Pacheco also scored a touchdown. The team played hard, but numerous penalties cost valuable yardage resulting in a nail-biter loss.

The fifth grade team beat the Farmington Force 27-2. Cole Perkins ran for two touchdowns and threw for one more completion to Wyler Stewart. Sam Wetherill and JC Spain also contributed to the score, and Stewart and Perkins had fumble recoveries. Defense played hard, and it paid off. Keyon Alston, Stewart, Perkins and Dax Kunch led the team defensively.

The sixth grade squad beat Bloomfield 33-6, moving their record to 6-0. The entire team had a standout game. Isaiah McCrady gave Bloomfield trouble all day and intercepted two passes, recovered a fumble and had numerous tackles. Ethan Palmer, Quanah Nez and Tyler Hoerl also had fumble recoveries. Griffin McCroskey, Jerren Miller-King and Darion Allen handled the attempt of any running game.

The Demons also shared the wealth with the points. Hoerl, Allen, Malique Rodriguez, Jordan Willbanks, Rylan Ernst all scored touchdowns while Rodriguez, Jerad Lopez and McCroskey added extra points.
