The real story for Vallecito Winterfest should have been Bo Boling heading up the youth ice fishing program with over 30 youngsters participating. Readers will probably remember that a year ago Tony Shurtz of Vallecito Conservation Sporting Association took away the first prize in the youth fishing contest from Bo’s son because the youngster didn’t have a parking permit for the event (he wasn’t even old enough to drive).
VCSA is a nonprofit corporation that takes in over $300,000 a year, has been under investigation for quite some time and had its Pine River Irrigation District contract at the lake’s marina canceled year before last. There is a lot of unrest at the lake as the bureaucrats continue to ignore recreation in order to sell water to their private irrigation interests. This lake is a real scenic beauty when it has water and was again at minimum levels at the end of last year.
Hopefully, people like Bo and government entities that support recreation and wildlife will continue to press hard for change. This story should have been front page news.
