You’ve got to love the game when it comes with pain

Teenagers called the shots at the Steams Vs. Punks dodgeball tournament while adults chucked balls at each other Thursday.

The din was deafening at the Durango Community Recreation Center as 12 teams contended for first place.

Members of the Gargoyles, came off the court after three wins pumped up and convinced they would take first.

“Victory all the way!” exclaimed Brendan Grady as he came off the court, which a Go-Pro Camera strapped to his head to capture the moments.

His team came back after losing last year for love of the game.

“It the combination of the greatest features of athletics,” said Haydn Collard, a member of the college-aged team.

Clay Seibel, 14, was one of the teens charged with refereeing the competition, and he found it more challenging than playing. But he was happy no one had contested his calls.

The annual fundraiser was expected to bring in $1,000. for Southern Ute Community Action Program Inc’s Youth Services, said Eileen Wasserbach the executive director.
