Fifteen non-profit organizations from La Plata, Archuleta and San Juan Counties will compete for their share of more than $20,000 on Thursday, May 15 at Sky Ute Casino Resort in the 15th annual Non-Profit Money Booth. Since 1999, when Sky Ute Casino Resort held the first Non-Profit Money Booth Event, nearly $275,000 has been given to local charities to support a variety of worthy causes.
Applications for this year's event are now available at the Sky Ute Casino Resort front desk. All applications must be turned in no later than May 2 by 4 p.m. to be considered. A reception will be held in the Sky Ute Casino Events Center from 6 to 7 p.m. to honor the selected organizations and present each with a $500 check. Then, the action will get underway at 7 p.m. when a representative from each organization will enter the money booth for 45 seconds to grab as much cash as they can.
Last year, selected organizations included: Bayfield Early Education Programs, Adult Day Care at Our Place, Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation NM Chapter, Veterans for Veterans of Archuleta County, Tribal College Journal, Florida Aspen Club, La Plata Community Clinic, Sexual Assault Services Organization, Ignacio Tri-Ethnic Injury Prevention Coalition, Mercy Housing Colorado, Friends of the Ignacio Community Library, Pine River Senior Citizens, La Plata Family Centers Coalition and Blue Star Mothers of America, Durango Chapter.
