Add tangible steps to state climate plan

As an avid skier and hiker, I have a long-standing appreciation for our public lands and wilderness areas. I am concerned that climate change will impact the livelihoods and quality of life of my fellow Coloradans. With temperatures on the rise, Colorado can expect to see more heat waves, more extreme and sustained droughts, and poorer air and water quality in the decades ahead. Climate change threatens the health and security of Colorado families and businesses, as well as our ability to enjoy the unique beauty of Colorado.

It is for these reasons that I’m happy to see the introduction of House Bill 1004, a bill that would add tangible steps and deadlines to the governor’s climate plan for Colorado. I want to see our lawmakers create something with teeth. I am disappointed that a few of our elected legislators, such as Rep. J. Paul Brown, deny the reality of climate change and the devastation it brings. More than two-thirds of Coloradans want our state to take action on mitigating the impacts of climate change. It is clear that despite what the climate deniers say, Colorado is moving forward with a plan to tackle climate change head-on.
