75 years ago: The financial statement of the town of Silverton was “quite favorable,” with a balance increase of $803.32 during the past fiscal year. Money was also used during the year to pave Greene Street.

50 years ago: Directors of La Plata Water Conservancy District called a public meeting at Breen Grange Hall “for the purpose of discussing various methods to be used to urge Eastern congressmen to vote for H.R. 3300, which includes the Animas-La Plata project.”

25 years ago: After the winter’s record snowfall in Southwest Colorado, La Plata County officials wanted to make sure residents remembered that “the water in that snow could bring a flood of new problems.”
