Herald should dump progressive, irrelevant columns

When I moved to Durango almost 30 years ago, the population in La Plata County was about 32,000 people and the Herald’s circulation was 12,000-plus readers.

Today, the population is around 57,000 and the Herald’s circulation is a touch over 7,000, including about 1,500 online subscribers.

While the population increased almost 25,000 over that time period, the Herald lost 5,000 readers at the same time.

If I were on the editorial board, I certainly would dump the progressive columnists that live in the DC/New York bubble and cultivate local talent to provide the editorial page with material that relates to our issues here in La Plata County.
