Albuquerque police arrest man connected to 3 shooting deaths

ALBUQUERQUE – An Albuquerque police SWAT team arrested a man on a federal arrest warrant who they say was involved in a shooting where three people were killed earlier in the week, authorities said.

Police said in a Saturday news release that detectives tracked Richard Kuykendall, 41, to a home on the city’s east side and called in the SWAT team to make the arrest. He was questioned and then booked into jail on a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police have not charged Kuykendall in the case involving the three men who were killed Wednesday. They said he had a gun when the shooting happened but are continuing to investigate.

Police had been looking for a man who was seen running from a hospital parking lot after the three people with gunshot wounds were found inside a vehicle. The three men have not been identified.

Police said the shooting happened while the vehicle was parked in an alley. It was then driven to the northeast Albuquerque hospital.

Police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos earlier said the man running away appeared to be injured and had blood on him, but it wasn’t clear if he was actually hurt.
