Durango High School’s volleyball team swept Montezuma-Cortez for the second time this season and completed a season sweep of the Panthers for the third season in a row with a non-league victory Tuesday night in Cortez. Set scores were not available.
DHS head coach Colleen Vogt said the team didn’t serve as well as it normally does, but strong defensive play at the net helped negate any shortcomings at the service line.
Taylor Wolf led the way at the net with six of the Demons’ 14 blocks.
Durango’s front-row also was great away from the net defensively. Lana Razma, Brett Rowland and Ally Snow, the team’s top-three leaders in kills this season, led the Demons in digs Tuesday night. Snow led with 20 digs, followed by Razma’s 19 and Snow’s 14.
The loss was the final match of the season for the Panthers, who finished the year 6-13 overall with a 2-8 record in 3A Intermountain League play.
Durango will get back to action in 5A/4A Southwestern League play this weekend for homecoming. The Demons (5-1 SWL) will host league-leading Fruita Monument (16-1, 7-0 SWL) on Friday, then Montrose (7-9, 2-4 SWL) on Saturday.
The Ignacio High School volleyball team fell 25-15, 25-17, 25-11 against Del Norte (11-6) in a non-league match Tuesday night in Del Norte.
The Bobcats (7-10, 6-5 San Juan Basin League) will close out their regular season later this week when they will host Mancos (5-12, 2-9 SJBL) on Thursday before they will travel to Ridgway on Saturday to face the Demons (9-5, 6-3 SJBL).
